Bain Barbecue

Nearby University: University of Memphis
Approximate distance from University of Memphis: Less than 5 miles
Description:
Located in a refurbished house in the Cooper-Young neighborhood, Bain proudly serves Texas-style barbecue in the heart of Memphis. In the Texas tradition, Bain pays more attention to beef than the average Memphis barbecue joint. Even the smoked chicken wings are then fried in beef fat, though you can get them with the Memphis-style honey gold sauce. Even the sides reflect the Texas influence, including a mildly-spicy side of pinto beans instead of the usual sweet baked beans, and “Texas Twinkies,” a jalapeño stuffed with brisket and cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Weekly specials include pastrami on Fridays and beef ribs on Sundays. Bain is located near the Liberty Bowl, so they are a great stop before a Memphis Tigers football game.
